c.1880 Gong Bell Mfg. Co., Double Headed Cast Iron Bell Ringer
Early, silver painted cast iron bell ringer manufactured by the Gong Bell Mfg. Co., East Hampton, CT. Comes complete with its original wooden threaded push rod. Toy features twin headed figure which strikes a bell placed on either side. The heads move when the points of an eight pointed star attached to the axle underneath the toy bump against it. Characterized with classic heart shape spoke wheels with upper base half cast to resemble tree bark. Wooden push rod still has its original iron ferrule (ring) attached to the threaded end to prevent it from splitting. Wood has aged beautifully acquiring a mellow dark appearance.
